Trap

⭐⭐ 1/2

I appreciate any and all attempts at originality. Big swings are always more entertaining, even if the batter still strikes out. So directors like M. Night, known for modern masterpieces like The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, has a permanent spot in my lineup. I have no idea why I’m using so many baseball terms here. But even when he strikes out, Shyamalan sure goes big.

In his latest, the fearless originator brings his latest outlandish story to the big screen with the help of 00’s darling, Josh Hartnett. Grinning and gritting his teeth, Hartnett plays trapped mouse in the maze set by a sting operation set at a live concert. Schmoozing his way in and out of trouble, Hartnett bends everyone around him to find a way out as his tween daughter’s suspicions grow and grow.

The original concert lineup that acts as the soundtrack is surprisingly boppy, played by Shyamalan‘s daughter and performer, Saleka. Talk about going method.
