The Substance

⭐⭐️⭐️

Beauty lies within… literally.

I felt sick to my stomach watching “The Substance”. The gore. The objectification. The unattainable beauty standards. The spinal leakage. Dennis Quade eating shrimp. Whether you’re nauseated by the excessive fetishization of women’s bodies or find it humorous in its own maximalist way, “The Substance” is a monster movie for the ages.

As a super fan of horror classic “The Shining”, I am HERE for the homages in carpeting, wall color, axed bathrooms, and blood flow. “Here’s Sue!”

I also take this as permission to vomit blood upon anyone who tells me “pretty girls should smile”. Note taken.

The hyper realistic body dysmorphia did me in, going past the point of camp into GIVE ME THE POPCORN BUCKET, I’M GOING TO BE SICK territory. Not the movie experience I long for but this one has enough substance for an overall enjoyable watch.
