Lee (2024)

⭐⭐⭐ / ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’ll watch Kate Winslet do just about anything. Chain smoke? Sure. Blaze trails? Heck yes. Embody real life icon Lee Miller, former model turned WWII photographer? No question. And “Lee” delivers everything it advertises - intriguing history, strong female leads, talented artists using their gifts to fight tyranny and document history. And not just history, history. War. Death. Genocide. I can’t imagine the world we’d live in if photographers like Lee had not been present to record Dachau.  Atrocities of this scale are impossible to comprehend even with documented evidence.

But as they say in war, there’s a lot of waiting in between the moments of frenzied intensity. Same with “Lee”. The moments in between the shots she takes just don’t have the same urgency. And with a story as compelling as Lee’s, there’s no time to waste on waiting.
