My Old A** (2024)
⭐⭐⭐.5 / ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
There’s something pure and powerful about coming-of-age summer films. The Sandlot. The Notebook. Stand By Me. Where bouncy bright characters fall in love. Hang out with friends. Make mistakes. Question their future. Take their youth for granted. Tale as old as time. And this summer tale really shimmers, led effortlessly by relative newcomer Maisy Stella. It’s a picture perfect polaroid of a Canadian summer before college… mixed with magic mushrooms. And hallucinations of future selves. Now that last part feels new.
It’s a sweet story. Reminding us once again that time is constantly passing through our fingers. All we can do is hang onto the moments while we are in them. But like all summers, nothing lasts forever.
Only downside for me, it’s a bit glossy. Even for a summer flick.
But hey, what does my old ass know? 🤷♀️
